Like the perfectly ripe grapes on the Clos La Chance vines all around us, this wedding was so completely full of vibrancy, beauty, flavor and especially soul from the hands and hearts that grew it into being….so much soul that I could hardly handle it. Between my beloved assistant Marisa and I, I think that we may have cried more than the bride did. Marilyn and Jason are so clearly in love and they brought that same clarity to their vision for their big day. Every aspect of the day felt so thoughtful and cohesive, from the custom invitations, programs and menus that were all designed by the couple themselves, to to the yellow macaroons that Marilyn’s mom baked, to the beautiful floral designs and the stunning cake, to the basket of golden flip flops by the dance floor. I love how bright and alive the day looked, which completely reflects Marilyn’s personality. It’s so fun to photograph someone who is able to exude so much joy and emotion with such ease, (especially when they have a few adorable freckles on their nose.) There were so many beautiful moments that day, beginning with their first look in San Francisco, and continuing with Jason’s surprise letter for Marilyn just moments before the ceremony. I have to say that I also adore a groom who isn’t afraid to show their emotions, and you could see throughout the ceremony and speeches how moved Jason truly was….but just as the tears began drying the party got started with the loudest cheers I’ve ever heard, and continued to amplify with their incredible live band that had everyone on the dance floor. Between the dance moves and the photo booth antics, this whole crew definitely proved that they knew how to celebrate the love. At the end of the night I went and gave Marilyn and Jason a massive hug and told them that I loved them both. They probably think that their photographer is a slightly crazed hippy freak, but such is the power of a post-wedding high…it compelled me to express my happiness for the fact that these two complimentary beings had found each other. I know that their future together will be a bright one.
